“Love Tender” transforms a vintage serviette with the image of a fork-tongued skull. The domestic serviette, used as the base fabric, brings familiarity and comfort. This is in stark contrast to the devilish imagery embroidered onto it, which has seductive and malicious qualities. The title “Love tender”, alongside the long forked tongue, illustrates a sinful lust. However, the white flowers from the serviette appear to have spread, with small groups of black flowers growing within the crevices of the skull. The contrasting table napkin and skull are integrated together with these flowers. Podervianska converts traditional domestic aspects, such as the serviette or the act of embroidery, with shocking and modern imagery.
