In February, a classical composition of cherubic figures is disrupted by an eruption of fire and smoke. Drawing on the visual language of European art history, the artist juxtaposes innocence and destruction, transforming a familiar idealised imagery into a reflection on the violence of the early days of the full-scale war in Ukraine in 2022. The contrast between the monochromatic figures and the vivid orange explosion heightens the sense of rupture, loss and collective trauma.
