“Bone and Tissue”, or “Lacuna 1.3” explores the essence of identity and heritage. A figure is depicted enveloped in a Ukrainian national headscarf whilst wearing modern attire.

This piece highlights the idea of lacunae — meaning a gap in books or manuscripts. These gaps serve as markers, urging us to closely examine these missing parts of culture and history. Lacunae are also spaces in which bone grows. Moskalets draws a comparison between these two meanings, depicting bone as the structure of identity whilst tissue connects it.

In contrast to the dark tones of the previous piece from the series “Lacuna”, this piece radiates light and colour. The vibrant patterns of a grandmother’s handkerchiefs illustrate an enduring spirit, whilst the concealed face transcends individual identity.

“Bone and Tissue” invites viewers to explore the core elements of cultural identity, bridging divides and uncovering the rich complexities of tradition and modernity intertwined.
