‘Island’ by Artem Andreichuk, was inspired by Paul Gauguin, who went to French Polynesia for 10 years and spent a lot of his time painting and drawing. With the contrast of blues and greens in the horizon and the warm toned reds of the womans’ body, Andreichuk depicts the organic integration of culture and nature. Lying amongst the flowers, the naked woman holds herself up to watch the sun set, which creates a tranquil and serene ambience. Although our lives may be hectic and overwhelming at times, ‘Island’ depicts the simple beauties of nature, and presents the peace that nature can provide when we immerse ourselves within it.
