This piece illustrates a tall palm with a pink floral border, creating the impression of a frame whilst harmoniously complimenting the artwork. The author was inspired to make this piece after his visit to Egypt. The crucial object of the work - the palm tree - is highlighted with bright pink paint, creating the impression of light. This compliments the bright flower border, and creates an interesting contrast to the Egyptian scenery that it surrounds. Moreover, the palm tree is a highly prevalent and important image in Tistol’s pieces, as he views it as a symbol of personal paradise. Tistol also utilises the natural brown of the canvas to reflect and mimic the desert that engulfs Egypt. Tistol uses a unique combination of colours and prints to create this interesting blend of culture.
