Fetishes and cults permeate our visible and invisible world. Tsoy explores fetishism in the sense of the french meaning, with fetiche meaning witchcraft. Therefore, an inanimate object which is the subject of blind worship is an object of fetish. Corporations, identity and religion are all explored in ‘Cultum’, with half of a face being visible suggesting the theme of identity. The head is covered in a gold and red head piece, which makes reference to religious golden relics. Moreover, the contrasting blacks and golds create a sense of desperate worship. The left side of the face is covered and an inscription on the eye translates from latin to ‘My sacrifice is a broken heart’. Beneath the head, ‘Cultum’ emerges from the shadows.
