Julia Peker
‘Freud’s Dragon’ explores society’s relationship with philosophy in a playful, humorous way. Peker rewrites the Sigmond Freud quote, ‘The intention that man should be happy is not in the plan of Creation’ by replacing the word ‘man’ with ‘dragon’. Meanwhile, a blue three-headed dragon is enjoying a glass of wine and a plate of oysters and sitting on an expensive bohemian chaise sofa. The three heads reference Freud’s personality theory, where the psyche is structured into three parts: the id, ego and superego. Peker creates an ironic scene where the dragons quote Freud whilst living their lavish lives and pretending not to see what is happening.
